To be brief and simple

1. Check for log buffer space request waits, if it is increasing during the normal transactional day, increase log_buffer. Corresponding to that check how much average redo write occurs for flush of buffer to log file.If that is small then u might be having frequent commits. Do not increase log_buffer more than
2. 1MB
3. than a value that may cause increase in log file sync waits.
