Johannes,

You can not restore backup from one Oracle version to different one.

  1. Use full consistent database export initiated from 8.1.7 servers againts 8.0.4 database.
  2. Then import the export into 8.1.7 db
  3. Open the database in restricted session mode and run $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/u0800040.sql to upgrade the data dictionary.
