I'd suggest the following:

Oracle Certified Professional DBA Certification Exam Guide ... forget the exam but read the book. Couchman, Oracle Press

Oracle 8i DBA Handbook, also Oracle Press, by Loney & Theriault

From the same set though I don't have it here at my desk get the Backup & Recovery book too. And pray you never really need it.
