Oracle Standby Looking for script for maintenance

I am doing Oracle Standby in 8.0.5 . Currently I maintain by manually applying the logfiles to the standby so that I can carefully take care of new added datafiles. I am looking for pre-existing scripts that automate applying logfiles to the standby and potentially also removing the logfiles once they are applied. Any help in locating such scripts would be greatly appreciated. Any description of experience with Shareplex by Quest for Failover would also be appreciated - we are just now also implementing Shareplex in a less critical db for failover as well as read-reporting.
