I don't know about Mandrake, but for my Suse Linux distribution I had to run a simple script provided by Suse before installing; nothing difficult at all, just minor points, but it had to be done. It was not enough to follow the instructions provided by Oracle. Something is always distribution-specific, it seems.

If I were you, I would post on a mandrake-specific newsgroup if it exists.
