Thank you, your web site pointed out just the thing. It was the missing libraries that caused problems. I went back into Java installer and installed everything that was available (which installed all the libraries) and then reapplied the patch. I also found the answer to my own item 1, the command is: make -f ins_oemagent.mk agent

svrmgr is working and so is sqlplus, and a bunch of other things that didn't work before. So, all 4 of my problems got resolved it seems.
