Thanks Dave and Tim for your input.

Oh dear, this is all most confusing. I did install the database and OAS into their own 'homes' and the install notes from www.olab.com do give a workaround to allow this to work. This workaround advises to set up a separate oasadmin id and run all the OAS services under it thereby allowing the database itself to use the system id.

Please can anyone out there confirm that this really does work.
