My organisation is gradually moving towards using Oracle for a large amount
of their systems and as the person in charge of developing the Intranet (and
possibly at a later date, the Internet site), I have been asked to evaluate
which path we should be going down from the point of view of integrating all
of these databases into our intranet.
Whilst we have purchased the entire Oracle package which includes the WebDB software, my manager has asked me to investigate whether this is the best solution to follow or whether there is anything else we should be looking at instead....
I have been looking at WebDB at a very basic level and whilst it looks a very powerful system for creating an intranet from scratch, I am not convinced of the benefits of it for an existing system unless we were to scrap that and start again (which I don't want to do). Does anyone therefore know of anywhere where I can find some real in-depth information about the issues which would arise if we were to try and integrate our existing Web pages (created on FP98 and running on an NT4.0 server using IIS4.0) into WebDB? I have looked on Oracle's web site but again, this all seems geared towards setting up a new site from scratch.
Has anyone else investigated these sort of areas and if so, what did they find was a) out there and b) the best (or worst!) solution(s) to go with...?
