personal oracle 8 tnslsnr80 won't run under win98

i installed a fresh win98/PO8 and a fresh win95/PO8 on seperate partitions. i can get the lsnrctl80 to bring the tnslsnr80 listener up under win95 but not win98. it, tnslsnr80, simply crashes; with no oracle messages. tnslsnr80 crashes the lsnrctl80 too, leaving me at the dos prompt.

anyone else have this problem and what is the workaround?

I guess this is microsoft and oracle at each other's throats in my c:\windows dir. :)

any comments greatly appreciated.
