Hi,
It is possible to create several database instances on the same server. But it makes administration of the server much more difficult. You easily run into memory problems when your have not enough server memory.
I don't know what you want to do with your students. When you only want to create schema objects (tables, views, procedures ...) it would be better to provide a user for every student group (student1, student2...). No every group can create those objects in their own schema without interfering with another group.
