Hi,

Please list the exact command and parameters you are using on the import.

Also please create a log of the import so I can see the commands used to actually shift from the importing users schema to the exporting users schema.

I am doing an interactive export and import. The parameters I am passing are all default values except for the buffer which is 1024000.
This is a user level export.
I have also tried with command line as follows: exp usr1/usr1 file=abc.dmp log=l.log
Then
When I am trying to import this abc.dmp into usr2(new user with separate tablespace) either interractively or command line , It is writing into the previous users usr1's
default tablespace.
This is the scenario,and parameters are as above. The command line import I tried is as below imp usr2/usr2 file=abc.dmp

Hi,

Try import parameters FULL=Y or FROMUSER=USER1 TOUSER=USER2. Dave Hunter

Please do an import using the SHOW command and write to a logfile so I can see the commands import is doing. You can either post the file or email it to me.

Thanks,

Doesn't Import always use the exported table's tablespace? Since the TOUSER and FROMUSER only change the schema, this would not effect the tablespace name. I don't know of anyway to change the tablespace name during the import.

So, if user A has tables defined in tablespace A, even if you import to user B, the import will still try to create the tables in user A's tablespaces.

This is correct.

Either pre-define the table where you want it or make sure that the tablespace where its coming from doesn't exist.

If the tablespace is not found IMPORT will use the default tablespace for the TOUSER.
(AFAIK!!!) Cheers,

You can import to the user default tablespace.(I have tested)

Example: user A is exported default tablespace is X, import to user B default tablespace is Y.

follow the below .

create user B ...... default tablespace Y; grant connect,resource to B;

Note: when you grant resource to the user it will also grant unlimited tablespace. So in this case you have to revoke this priv.

revoke unlimited tablespace from B;

alter user B quota 10M on Y;

Now you import,
IMP xxx/xxx fromuser=a touser=b log=bbb

Now you can see the result:

connect B/B

select segment_name, tablespace_name from user_segments;
