For 50 users, you could use a wide variety of platforms and get good performance. I would look at which technologies your staff has experience with (UNIX NT whatever), then go from there. Most decent AIX or HP platforms can be easily configured to support that many users, but if you have mostly experience with NT, then maybe an SMP NT server would be a better bet.
