It will be in the Installation guide for your platform. Look in the "configuring the Oracle 8 system" chapter. The entries should look like ORACLE_SID:ORACLE_HOME:{Y|N}
example
ORCL:/u01/app/oracle/product/8.0.4:Y (to start the database at system startup)
