Format of /etc/oratab file on Unix

Can anyone point me to the point in the documentation where the format of /etc/oratab is explained. I know it's a RTFM question but I've only got the HTML-based documentation, oratab doesn't appear in the index anywhere and I'm going goggle-eyed scanning all the manual sections for it. I've found several references but no format or discussion and (surprise!) no hyperlinks.
