You didn't mention how many remote sites and where they are going to be.

This isn't a direct answer to your question...

If you are implementing 10SC (SmartClient), you not only have to consider bandwidth, you have to consider distance between sites. The client I am currently on discovered that performance of 10SC decreased significantly the farther from the database server the fat client was. Response times were measured in minutes when complicated screens had to be painted.

If all of your sites are within 100 miles of the database server, you probably don't have to worry about distance. Much more than that, and you need to look at alternatives. As far as I know, the alternatives are:

  1. Character apps (don't implement GUI) (short term fix)
  2. Use WinFrame from Citrix (expensive but tried and it works)
  3. Wait for the NCA version of the apps (the wildcard, not out there yet)

p.s. (I would guess that 128K lines between each site and the database server would be sufficient).
