Hi Dr Drudge,
I am aware of the fact that my question sounded lazy and nOObish.
I really am, but I was facing the decicion to dive into Oracle the way
normally approach new topics (by taking a few weeks off for study to make a
decent start), or take my chances in this newsgroup and ask for a
quickstart.
The fact that I will only be teaching basic SQL to complete newbies for a
few days didn't motivate me to really dive into Oracle. Besides the fact I
don't have the time to spare right now.)
I NEVER EVER had the intention to sound like: "Hee guys, can I learn Oracle in , say, 2 days?"
I am not that stupid.
I explicitely ended my posting with this: "I know how annoying it can be when somebody drops into a newsgroup with questions like this (happens to me all the time in c.l.java.*), so please forgive me for that. :-)"
I am NOT aiming at becoming a Oracle specialist, nor I am I trying to fool people. Some friends of just want to learn the basics of SQL, NOT Oracle, but because the underlying database is Oracle, they think it is a good idea to use that Database for this purpose. Makes sense to me.
To me, sorry to say guys, Oracle is just a database. And I have seen a few in my time. As I hear, a very decent stable and flexible one, but I am not intenting to use anything fancy, just basic SQL. Sorry if I insulted somebody. It was unintentional.
Regards and respect,
Erwin Moller
