I exercised that Oracle 7 Clt. and Oracle 8 Client doen't work together except you install from 8.0.5 the Client with its options SQL_NET8 and SQL_NET2
and you have to configure both tnsnames.ora files
$ORACLE_HOME\network\admin
$ORACLE_HOME\net80\admin

or set up a delta registry entry pointing to the tnsname and you can have a single tnsnames.ora file, but to configure this a bit tricky..

if you need ODBC Access configure sqora_73.dll and sqlora32.dll in separate subtrees beneath $ORACLE_HOME

p.s. but remember both Versions ORCL 7.x and Oracle 8.0.x are obsolete

     and even ORCL 8.1.7 will become obsolete soon

win2K will not help and if you plan to use terminal server solution : if does not support ORCL 7x Clients
