SQL*NET or ORacle Client

Hi all,

I am currently working on Data warehouse project where my data is coming from Oracle Database which is on Digital Unix Machine and Datawarehouse which is in SAS is on IBM AIX machine. Now I wanted a minimal components which allows me to talk to ORacle Database on Source System ... like SQL PLUS,SQL*NET... and Not Oracle Database . But when I have no where found out that Oracle sales this products individually .. some vendors told me to Buy a Oracle Database on AIX ...

Why should I purchase a Database which is not required ??

Is anyone knows any thing about it.
