most people on this thread have got the jist of things correct

8i - database server

9iAS applications server

9i Database server - introduces some fundamental changes to the architecture of the oracle database structure.

10 ERP stuff

11i ERP software that integrates 8i / 9iAS products for ERP stuff plus lots of other things. pity it has bugs coming out of its seams and the patches tend to break things - basically like microsoft along time ago (its already upto version 11.5.4).
