The Oracle Store portion of their website does seem to allow one to purchase licenses and support for 8i Enterprise. They appear to offer the same support at other "PC" platforms, as they take the same amount of money.

For comparison, I have found IBM's install of DB2 on Linux quite easy. It uses a simple text mode install, with fewer special reqirements (other than the need to install pdksh). Of course there are some issues with specific distributions, and I believe that IBM has a specific fix/procedure for RH 6.1.

I was able to install, configure, and connect to a DB2 v6.1 server on Caldera OpenLinux 2.3 inside of 30 minutes. Oracle required significantly more effort.
