The status is that it is not supported. Oracle for SCO apparently works on Linux.

An "Enhancement Request" has been logged with Oracle, asking them to support Oracle 8 on Linux. The ER number is 663419.

If you have existing support and are a current Oracle customer with a support contract, you can call in a TAR and ask for the above Enhancement Request to be implemented.

If you don't have an existing support contract, you can call Sales and Customer Service in the US on 1-800-392-2999 and and let them know you'd like to see Enhancement Request 663419 "Linux port of Oracle 8" implemented.

I am sure Oracle will port to Linux. The only issue is when and how the support will be structured. Several ideas have already been posted to others in the c.d.o groups.

All I really want to have is a way to do selects and tnsping from Linux to remote Oracle db's. The server can stay on Sun, but I'd like a better way of accessing the data from Linux than running scripts via rsh. --
