I set the pga_aggregate_limit to 2G, and increased the loop counter to 52,000 (doubling my earlier guess of a minimum), and bombed with ORA-04036. I'd say that there's probably a bug fix between the x.3 and x.5 releases that either hides the problem or manages to avoid the problem. My session's "session pga memory max" had reached 1,863,140,144 before the error was raised.
