Hi all,

I've had some gipcd errors and that set me off on trying to get a better idea of what gipcd actually does. My main question is in getting a better feel for the responsibilities of gipcd. Does it just check the availability of the IP endpoints (cluster_interconnect, asm) as configured in PnP? Or is there more? Does a gipcd error necessarily mean an issue with the OS, IP, NIC, or Network? Or are there also other internal, Grid checks that it does?

For example, in my case, I saw some SharedSegOpen errors and ANOM_ABEND in gipcd.trc and /var/log/messages. What isn’t clear to me is whether or not gipcd works strictly with external objects and so any error would need to arise from something outside of grid/oracle or whether there were also some internal checks and procedures which imply the possibility of the issue arising internal to Grid. The documentation on the daemon is pretty sparse, and unfortunately I don’t have a test system to run strace.

Thanks.

Henry
