So apologies for tone or lack thereof. It's my intent to be transparent and open with what's happening with the product. And of course email/text messages have a way of changing content of words and misinterpreting.
Would it make amends if I told you how to turn this feature off?

Add this to your sqldeveloper.conf file and it will no longer to the
tnsping on startup.
AddVMOption -Dsqldev.tnsping=false
Also you should know if you do a 'reconnect' in SQL Developer we do a TNSPing first to see if it's even worth bothering to try to make the connection.
