In the cases where you've had conflicts, were they correctly reported by this command (from the PSU release notes) prior to installation or did you not find the problem until after you already installed the PSU?

opatch prereq CheckConflictAgainstOHWithDetail -phBaseDir ./8833280

I'm surprised that they told you to stop using the feature in 10g until you upgrade to 11g - that doesn't sound like they're living up to their end of the bargain according to their definition of "Premier Support" and the published end date of July 2013 for Premier Support on 10.2: http://www.oracle.com/support/library/brochure/lifetime-support-technology.pdf
