As all the time, there is more than one way to view it. Maybe you can call The Helsinki Declaration: http://thehelsinkideclaration.blogspot.com/2009/03/helsinki-declaration-observation-1.html as a kind of answer.

In fact, I personally see no need to replace an 'ordinary' RDBMS, in fact, I think they should be starched in their formal constraints.

There is really enough space for other kinds of databases (or whatever you call them) but most of them are not that widely useable.
