SAN performance above 1 mb per physical read

I know oracle can only handle 1 mb/physical read through 10g. I was talking to a SAN guy and he says there are only minimal performance improvements for setting your SAN to do more than 1 mb/read ever (such as file copies). Is this due to buffering? Has anyone tested this?
