It has been a long time since I last used the MetaLink forums. There are superior sources like this I would rather spend my time perusing.

I have a recent MetaLink incident which is very illustrative of the problem.

I was working with someone from support on the phone (managed to navigate the support quagmire until I made contact with a human) and we were reviewing the system parameters. We came across one of particular interest to this person (I will not say what the parameter was in an open forum) and they said 'What idiot changed that setting?'. I told them they had and gave them reference to a TAR we had work on a few months prior to the current TAR. They responded by saying 'Just one moment' and there was a pause for a few minutes. When they did come back they admitted they did recommend this setting change a few months ago but the recommendation now was to leave it set to the default. I changed it back to the default and the issue was resolved.

The sad twist to this story is it trivial compared to some of the stories one could share if time and propriety would allow.
