That's certainly changed. In fact I don't recall it being like that at all=
. Was it the new features exam (which upgrades your existing certification=
, so did you already have that?) or was it one of the suite of exams you ne=
ed to pass to get your original certification?
If you are already certified with a previous version, and you take the beta=
exam, you will get your certification upgraded to the newer version. That=
's how I've done it every time since the original 7.3 certification, becaus=
e I've ALWAYS done the beta to provide feedback (being a good corporate cit=
izen and all that crap). In fact the only reason I did any other exam was =
for either reviewing books on them as a tech editor, or writing the book I =
did for the 8i Exam Cram series.

Something important to note...

When I took the 8i beta certfication, I was charged "only" $25.00, but the = test was much longer and they solicited feedback on each question.

When I didn't receive my certification in the mail over the next couple mon= ths, I called Oracle to ask when I would receive it.

It turns out that passing the beta certification did not confer certificati=
on. I had taken the exam with the understanding that I was getting certifi=
ed for less money (i.e. $25.00 instead of $100, $125, $400, etc). Instead,=
it turns out that I was being charged $25.00 for the privilege of helping =
Oracle beta test their exam.

I had to take the test again, paying $125, in order to receive my certifica= tion.

I don't know whether this is true of the 10g beta...
