Hi Pete.

I didn't follow thru on installing white box linux. Red Hat came thru with a reasonably priced developer edition - 5 seats of software with support for 1 year, $299. That entitles you to WS, ES or AS editions.

I just wanted to be able to certify on ES and to be able to open TARs. Ok, I wanted async support (I think) and to hop on the v2.6.x _supported kernels train when they are available.

Call me lazy, but this was what I was after, and I pushed no further (with white box linux). btw - rhn is a fast connection.

I don't think that $749 /year for Red Hat (RHEL) 3.0 ES is out of line (with support, list) for running Oracle Server in production. That is less expensive than purchasing a comperable win32 server operating system with a support contract ($795 + $2800 for 3 years = $1200/yr).

Just ordered another 512MB of memory for the laptop for under $100 from crucial.com. 1 GB ought to be enough :)

maybe.

Paul
