Images in DB -- Need your suggestion

Guys,

performance being the issue,

would it be better to store images in Oracle DB (9iR2) or in o/s (RH linux) file system ? no update/editing of the image will be done.

..just insert/retrieve the images using JSP.

let's us assume that java coding will be done perfectly ;)

all i need is the performance.
that is fastest method of doing the above.

what would be the choice of u guys ?
how would u go about deciding it ?
what factors affect these decision ?
