what version of Oracle?
If by down you mean the oracle process takes up all CPU and new connections do not get serviced (just sit there on the login and do not get any message back) and you are on 8.1.7.3 you might want to look into applying patchset 8.1.7.4.1 (or higher). There are some memory related bugs that can cause this behaviour.

Hi listers,
I'am in oracle 8i on window 2000 server. In this month my database down almost everyday and the only thing I can do is stop dan restart the database and it makes me curious what's going on with my oracle. Pls anyone on this list, can you give me a good solution how to fix it so it will not happen again. All suggestions is welcome and very appreciated.
