I don't think you can connect 1000 clients on Oracle 8i+ with 8 GB of RAM. I don't know what the memory footprint is on Win2k, but on unix systems it's not unusual for a dedicated process to require 8 meg of RAM.

You probably need to do some benchmarking on a Win2k system to get a good idea of memory usage for your configuration.

As for the buffer cache size, what kind of error message does it cause?
