Oracle 8i is certified with Linux glibc version 2.1x Oracle 9i is certified with Linux glibc version 2.2x

Which Linux distribution and version are you using?

This is just one of the possible issues, but it is the most common. There are many discussion threads on this on the OTN Linux discussion boards.
