Just come out of Larry's Speech at Openworld. It was lot of bull about 1million page/views and 1mil TPC. Stay tuned for more info on 9i the demo was pretty good and lot of new features and one more thing Larry wants to go SQL server route and remove most of admin stuff from people's hand(He meant DBA's but was careful enough to avoid the word DBA).

Some of the New features I heard are
N machines can access the same DB
Can read flat files from SQL
Dynamically change the DB_Block_buffers
Lot of new features in Backup & Recovery. Thx
Gautam

Have you heard? No? Well, after just 1 day, there is a LOT of news. But, it is only 1 day, so there will be a lot more announced. Should I wait for Friday? No. OK, here are a few things:

  1. 8.2 becomes 9i, what was once noted on Metalink as just a 'bug-fix-release' turns out to be a major release with 100s of new features and arch changes, we can see demos of beta code here
  2. No one is sure, but I would look for "real" 9i some time around 2Q01, a session even mentioned '9i Release II' already
  3. Warehouse Builder, new, 3i, seems to be a very good tool, they may or may not release an interim bug fix release for 2.1
  4. There was mention of "Reports 7" so D2K seems to be well
  5. They seem to care about Win2K and will support new features
  6. It is true that most talks are by Oracle and are marketing oriented, and that there is no CD, and next year there will not be even handouts, but it has been helpful so far.
