Gopal,

What I have been trying to communicate all along is that the issue of periodically cleaning up "temp segments" is not relevant for temporary tablespaces of type "TEMPORARY". There is only 1 temp segment for the entire tablespace and it gets dropped on shutdown. The concept of periodic cleaning is not relevant here.

Further, on instance startup, the first sort that is greater than sort_area_size allocates the temp segment on disk and this grows subject to the size of the temporary tablespace. In my communications I have been using the term "true temporary tablesapces" and this is what I have been referring to - temporary tablespaces of type TEMPORARY. What you are talking about is for temp segments that get created during creates, rebuilds or sorts on disk to tablespaces of type - PERMANENT.

Hope that helps,

Gaja.
