There is no such thing as "verbal reassurance". You either have it in writing or you don't.

As far as being "abused", they certainly don't see it that way. Quick refresher in economics. This is capitalism, the point is to maximize profits, and minimize costs. As much as you may get along with the people or company you work for, ultimately you're a "cost" on a balance sheet, and so consequently you have to stand up for yourself. If you are pushed, and you take it, you may keep getting pushed. It's rare that corporations behave compassionately, in my experience. But knowing all this, you'll fare a lot better.

The fact is, if you're a DBA, or any type of computer expert, you're in DEMAND in the industry. Perhaps they need a reminder of this. Know the demand, know your market value. Received on Mon Jun 05 2000 - 13:24:47 CDT
