We have two HP-UNIX machines tied together with one as production and the other as a "failover" machine. The disks are accessible to both machines and the disks are also mirrored. When the production cpu fails, the backup machine automatically takes over and restarts Oracle, no muss, no fuss.

Is there a way to FULLY automate a hot standby database? (besides waiting for V7.3).

Surely, this has been successfully implemented by some of you out there.  The problem lies in the fact that when doing a RECOVER AUTOMATIC to automatically apply the archive logs to the standby database, it never stops to say media recovery complete (even though it is). I have to say CANCEL when it looks for the next log that hasn't even been created yet. Talking with Oracle analyst #2, she said that this was the way it worked, and there was no way to fully automate what I was trying to do. Their technical bulletin on standby databases is of no help either.

We're running V7.1.6 on ATT 3000.
Thanks for any suggestions.
