[Quoted] Well, sometime we have to reinforce this. I've been guilty of being wow-ed by the latest and newest whizzbang which after a closer examination turned out to leave us even worse off. I do think vendors are doing us (the programmers, developers & whoever works with databases) a disservice when they enable the bad behaviors by providing hints (as well as other "features") as opposed to demanding more rigorous discipline over the design and writing expressions. But I don't think demanding discipline sell products, unfortunately, at least not without redesigning in such way that it's more intuitive to exercise discipline than going at it in an ad hoc fashion.
