Yes, they lose a lot, although is possible to make OO programming with an old structured language like Pascal, but you don't have automatic jump tables and access protection to the private parts of your types among other things.

But the typical organization of the OO code is infinitely better than the typical organization of the old structured code.

OO was an important advance although botched-up and oversold.
