Altering a Session over a db link

Hi, I have a case where I need to use alter session to set a param but it needs to be done over a db link, can it be done and if so what is the syntax?

More info:
I have 2 databases A and B. The application always accesses database A which has a db link to B. I need to alter session in database B to set the optimizer_mode to rule to run a specific statement.
