I also have 9i Personal running on Win98. During the installation
process, you were prompted to enter an administration password of your
choosing. You need this password to either start or stop the database
every time (Seems like overkill on a desktop database! Guess they
wanted "maximum realism" ...)
If you don't remember the password you entered during installation,
your only recourse may be to reinstall Oracle. Good luck ...
