My company has significant experience in this area, and for a start I can
recommend:

  • http://www.cetus-links.org
  • Peter Heinckiens: "Building Scalable Database Applications : Object-Oriented Design, Architectures, and Implementations" (The Addison-Wesley Object Technology Series). ISBN 0201310139.
  • Also, some of the OODBMS vendors have ODMG compliant encapsulations of relational databases.
