Of course the need has been felt before. There have been various attempts = at
an SQL mode for Emacs. My recommendations for Oracle are:

  • pls-mode by Dmitry Nizhegorodov <dnizhego_at_us.oracle.com>

Get this from the author. This mode seems geared toward editing PL/SQL cod= e
and contains many things to improve the look of your code.

  • sql-mode by Jim Lange <jlange_at_us.oracle.com>

Get this from the Archives (see http://www.xemacs.org/elisp-archive.html) a= s
the author may no longer be at Oracle. This mode seems geared toward SQL c= ode
development with SQL*Plus. I use the sqlplus-mode extensively whenever I n= eed
to use SQL*Plus as it adds history and command-line editing to SQL*Plus.

There are others around -- you just have to go looking for them.
