When most people refer to Transaction Monitors, they are speaking of some kind of middle-ware/messaging-system like Tuxedo, or Encina, or CICS, or Top End, etc.

Tuxedo was developed by AT&T, got big, then was sold to Novell, then sold again to BEA. Definately talk to BEA if you have questions about Tuxedo. I think Novell still makes a version for Unixware, but I'm not sure. Again, get in touch with BEA.

If any of this is inaccurate, please correct me (as I'm sure someone here will). ;->

I ran into the lead developer of Tuxedo last summer, and he said most of the original crew is still working on the product, and have survived the shifts.
