Yes

No. They use different versions of various core files. In order to use 16-bit Oracle tools against a 32-bit database you need to install an updated set of Required Support Files. These are supplied with PO7WIN95 (in a directory called ORA16UPD I think) and need to be copied into \orawin\bin.

These two files are completely different.

INIT.ORA is the generic name for the *database* configuration file. For PO7WIN95 it is in c:\orawin95\database and is called initorcl.ora.

ORACLE.INI is the client configuration file for Windows 3.1 tools. It can be anywhere you liek but is usually in c:\windows or sometimes c:\orawin. This will have been updated by the Des2k installation.
