I've read all the Y2000 threads. I don't wish to start another thread on one of those general issues.
My question relates solely to Oracle:
Facts:
- Oracle itself does not have a Y2000 problem because it internally stores all dates with 4 digits in the year.
- A lot of programs written for Oracle (e.g. in SQL*Plus) uses dates with 2-digit years.
The problem in (2) relates to the default Oracle date format: DD-MON-YY.
Can this be changed to something like DD-MON-YYYY ??
(WITHOUT BREAKING THE OLD CODE ??)
Has Oracle written anything on the Y2000 problem ??
If so where can I find this information ??
Is Oracle Corp. doing anything to ease the problem in (2) ??
(one would hope that they would - quickly - implement somekind
of feature that would allow us to gradually migrate from the
current default date format to a new expanded date format).
