(Aah yes, the Internet... where people get the bomb recipes and instructions on how to stop Oracle applications.) Unless you changed the privileges on DUAL, it wasn't "someone", it was a DBA. I assume you know who your DBAs are.

A DBA dim enough to try a stunt like that on a production system ought not be a DBA. (But I guess you knew that already.) It is, however, reasonable to try such things on development systems to see what happens, just as it's reasonable to simulate disk failures. Forewarned is forearmed.
