  ?? Informix does support distributed databases and trigger based   replication:-

  in a trigger you can do UPDATE mydatabase_at_otherinstance:mytable   where otherstance could be a machine in Japan/France/anywhere.

 And based on current status of the technology. SO many people talk  about Informix and either describe Standard Engine or Online before  version 7.12.

 OK v7.2 is the latest but it is not available on all platforms and v8.1  is only for Massively Parallel Machines which very few people use.
