I think you need to provide more information..

How many instances are running when it goes down. How much shared memory is allocated at the OS level. What are the sizes of the SGA for each instance. How much memory does the system have.

Something i would do is turn on a debug log at the syslogd level..

Add in /etc/syslog.conf

*.debug /var/log/debuglog

Note the whitespaces are tabs.

This will log all debug information, next time it goes down, have a look at the log.
